I like it, it almost looks like a giant sperm whale Curious, did you use this photo for inspiration? [link]

Ah, someone finally started looking up the names! Usually I'll do the painting and then decide what I think it feels like and give it a name. This was the first painting I did with a name in mind. In fact I wrote the name on the stretcher bars even before I put any paint on the canvas. I did not use any photos for inspiration but I was greatly inspired by the sperm whale's almost unfathomable power and grace as captured in the book by Nathaniel Philbrick called In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex. I wanted to use the colors of the ocean and the animal itself while also creating a strong movement in the painting. I hadn't seen the photo you put up before, but it is a nice one!

I think it's awesome! The first thing that came to my mind was some sort of sea creature, so the sperm whale thing definitely makes sense. I think it's great that you were able to do something in your style, but make it look completely different than all the other ones.

You captured the grace and awesome power of the animal economically and beautifully! Very inpirational.

Ooh, I like the blues!! I was going to look up the name since I realized it was a phylogenic name, until I saw someone already did - I guess I am a biology nerd It really feels like a large power is slowly welling up, I just love this!!
